A fatal collision east of Taber Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of a 19 year old woman.

RCMP say a vehicle heading west on Highway 3 near Range Road 161 collided head-on with an east-bound tractor trailer unit at about 12:45pm.

Both vehicles burst into flames and ended up in the north ditch.

The 19 year old driver, and only occupant of the passenger vehicle, died at the scene.

The 65 year old man driving the semi was taken to hospital and later released.

Mounties, along with the help of an RCMP Collision Analyst, are investigating the crash.

No names have been released.
