A former southern Alberta man will have to pay a significant amount after admitting that he took two horses that weren’t his to a local auction and sold them to a processing facility.
Wayne Jubb, 78, pleaded guilty on Thursday (Aug. 15) to mischief for destroying or damaging property. He was originally charged with theft of cattle, trafficking stolen property and uttering forged documents.
The horses were going to be moved from a boarding facility near Stirling after their caretaker passed away. However, when the victim’s daughter went to pick up the animals on April 28, 2018, Jubb had already signed a document at the Picture Butte Auction stating that he owned the horses, and sold them for slaughter. The horses had been killed two days prior.
A judge has ordered Jubb to pay a $750 fine, as well as $8,000 in restitution plus the money from the sale of the horses to the victim.
