The provincial NDP’s Health Critic wants the government to commit to funding a planned assisted living facility in west Lethbridge.
The former government pledged $10 million for the project. A total of $3 million of that had already been sent to Covenant Health.
David Shepherd, who spent a couple of days in Lethbridge this week says given the UCP government’s decision to hold off on a supportive housing facility for people dealing with drug issues here, he’s concerned Jason Kenney’s government is going to pull the plug on this as well.
“There has been too much uncertainty around vital public services in Lethbridge. Seniors and their families in Southern Alberta deserve an update from the Health Minister, and a commitment that the facility will be funded by the new government,” says Shepherd.
Shepherd says he’d like to see assurances this much-needed Lethbridge facility will be built.
The 100 unit facility is planned for the Garry Station area on the west side.
Lethbridge West MLA Shannon Phillips wasn’t holding back either when talking about the facility. ” My constituents deserve better than an uncaring, arrogant, attitude toward our city.” Phillips says Lethbridge has been left out of crucial investments in just four short months (since the UCP took over). “The Kenney government has created considerable uncertainty for our city’s important infrastructure and services.”
