Trooper headlines an evening of hits in Cardston May 25

Legendary Canadian rockers Trooper returns to southern Alberta May 25 to the Cardston Agridome with special guests Sweet Tequila and Rudy Strangling Wolf. The evening will also feature Kainai fancy dancers and drummers.

Trooper, a Juno Award-winning band with 10 studio albums, were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame last year. In 2012, Trooper songwriters Ra McGuire and Brian Smith, were awarded SOCAN’s prestigious “National Achievement Award” for their lasting contribution to Canada’s songwriting legacy.

Each summer, Trooper tours Canadian music festivals, arenas, theatres and halls performing their cavalcade of hits, including “We’re Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time),” “Raise a Little Hell” and “The Boys in the Bright White Sportscar.”

“Each show is unique. That’s a big part of what makes it still a ton of fun. Every gig is a once-in-a-lifetime experience composed by the crowd and their energy, the venue setup and the countless other elements that come together with the band on that particular night to create a party,” says the band.

“When we walk out on stage, we have no idea what we’re walking into and we discover, along with the fans, what’s going to happen next. Thankfully, it’s always something positive that never ceases to be somewhat magical and a hell of a lot of fun.”

The band’s classic tunes are truly one of the reasons for Trooper’s longevity. “Doesn’t matter if it’s a rocker like ‘Raise a Little Hell’ or a ballad like ‘Pretty Lady’ or ‘Two for the Show,’ everyone at Trooper shows – regardless of their age – knows them, loves them and has their own heartfelt memories attached to them.”

According to the band, the songs are timeless and still relevant in a world where so many other things seem to have changed. “We’ve been together, as Trooper, for a very long time.”

Band members Gogo and Scott Brown are closing in on 30 years in the band. “We truly are a family and have a blast making music together. Fans tell us that comes across on stage and in the music. We hope so.”

This summer, live music kicks into high gear throughout southern Alberta, and it’s wonderful to see its enthusiastic return, says the band. “We’re very grateful to fans and event organizers for hanging in there through the pandemic years and showing so much support. We love getting to see so many of our friends and peers on the road, still rocking out as well.”

Right now, Trooper is focused on delivering the best live music experience for fans and connecting them with the songs they know and love.

“We’re looking forward to playing Cardston. Southern Alberta is such a beautiful area and the fans there have always been awesome. It’s long been said, ‘Trooper has played every community in Canada’ over the band’s 49-plus-year history. But, Cardston just might be a rare one we missed.”

Trooper is also active with their fans through social media. Reach out to the band on Instagram, Facebook and through their website trooper.com.

Doors open for the show at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available online through Ticketmaster or in-person at the Cardston Husky or at the Standoff Rec Centre.
