Two Lethbridge Spray parks open Friday, third to remain shuttered due to water conservation efforts

Water conservation is being kept in mind as two out of three of the spray parks in the city are scheduled to open on Friday.

According to the City of Lethbridge because both the Legacy Spray Park and Rotary Centennial Fountain for the majority use clean and recycled water they will be opening at noon on Friday, May 17th. However, on the city’s west side the Gyro spray park, will not be opening this year as a part of the city’s efforts to conserve water because it doesn’t use recycled water.

Other changes happening this spray park season include the reduction of hours, with the Legacy Park spray park open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the Rotary Centennial Fountain open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. However, according to the parks hours can be changed depending on the needs of the community. Those who go to the Rotary Fountain also may notice the water height is lowered, which is an effort being made to reduce evaporation.

According to the municipality, the parks will be open until the September Labour Day long weekend, “or as summer weather permits.”
