The clever, curious, and inquisitive mammals you will find at Petland are ferrets, and we have quite a few brand-new babies there now!
Ferrets kept as loving companions are a domesticated version of the European Polecat. The Blackfoot ferret, or American Polecat, is a close relative.
Ferrets are fans of clowning around and are committed to being silly much of the time. When ferrets are super playful and goofing around, they will arch their back and bounce, doing a little dance, swaying side to side, and giggling as they play!
Ferrets are quite intelligent, complex creatures and can learn to do tricks as well! They can even be taught to roll over and fetch!
Their problem-solving skills and some of their behaviors have been compared to those of a dog.
The name “ferret” is derived from the Latin word “furittus,” which means “little thief.” This is also fitting for many sable ferrets who have little black masks over their eyes!
Ferrets crave social interactions and adore spending time with their humans, but having more than one ferret is ideal.
Oh, and these guys need their naps! They sleep about 18 hours a day and adore sleeping in their ferret hammocks!
When a few are gathered, the name of the group alludes to a more serious side… they’re called a business!
Apparently, it was historically “busyness” because of how much energy they have for the six hours a day when they’re not napping! Lol. It just changed in later years to a business.
