Province being asked to provide more funding to HALO Air Ambulance

Mayors and Reeves across southern Alberta are pushing the provincial government to provide adequate funding to the HALO Air Ambulance program.

The group, which recently met in Taber, also wants an independent review conducted into Alberta’s helicopter EMS system.

The current agreement between HALO and Alberta Health Services expires October 1st, with no ongoing commitment to funding. That so-to-be-expire deal provided $1 million in one-time funding.

Mayors and Reeves say additional costs have put HALO in a bind, despite some public donations over the summer. HALO has a shortfall of around $750,000 between now and the next contract being signed.

HALO primarily serves southeast Alberta and is stationed in Medicine Hat.
