Miners Days celebrations return to Coalhurst next month

Summer fun returns to the Town of Coalhurst July 26-28 to celebrate Miners Days.

“We have fantastic events happening all three days,” says Christy Henning, director of Community Development.

“This year, Miners Days is going to be taking place a little bit earlier than it has in the last few years. It’s going to be taking place at the end of July. Last year, it was closer to the end of August. The local committee decided to change the date, so it wasn’t conflicting with other events happening in the region such as Whoop-Up Days or Corn Fest,” adds Henning.

On the Friday night, Henning says there are two major events scheduled. “One is brand new to Miners Days. It’s a Night Market. It will take place just outside of the Community Centre. That’s going to be full of local artisans, small businesses and it’s also going to be a fundraiser.”

And just down the street at the Coalhurst Legion there’s an annual Parking Lot Party. “They’re going to have a barbecue, live music and everybody is welcome to attend,” notes Henning.

Registration is now open for the 2024 Miners Days Parade, which takes place on July 27 at 10:30 a.m., right after the Town Council Pancake Breakfast at the Community Centre. The free breakfast runs from 8-10 a.m.

Entry to the parade is free, but pre-registration is required. Community groups, organizations, businesses, government officials, municipalities and individual residents who would like to take part in the parade can find all the event details, parade rules and regulations and safety information on the Town’s website at coalhurst.ca.

Judging categories for the parade include BEST: overall entry, children’s entry, commercial float, municipal float, vehicle entry and group entry.

A Party in the Park will be held after the parade at Imperial Meadows Park with plenty of family-friendly activities. “Bouncy castles, laser tag, food trucks and train rides,” says Henning.

To wrap things up on the Saturday night, there will be a movie screening at the Community Centre. “The title of the movie is yet to be determined. We’ll be publishing that, as we confirm those details,” says Henning.

Summer community events held throughout southern Alberta are very important, says Henning. “To be able to bring community members together and celebrate the community, community spirit and spend some time together during the summer.”
