Former U of L chancellor named to Order of Canada 

The former chancellor of the University of Lethbridge (U of L) has received a significant honour. Charles Weaselhead has been appointed a member of the Order of Canada.  

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 and celebrates the achievements and contributions of individuals to the country. In total, 83 new appointments were made. 

Weaselhead was the first Indigenous chancellor for the post-secondary and served four years in the role, starting in February 2019.  

During his tenure with the U of L, the ELeV initiative was launched. The partnership between the university, Blackfoot Confederacy and the Mastercard Foundation aims to create and support educational opportunities for Blackfoot youth.  

Weaselhead is also the former chief of the Blood Tribe and Treaty 7 grand chief.
