The number of accidental fatal drug poisonings reported in April is the highest reported in Lethbridge to date in 2024.
According to the Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System, in April there were eight lives lost to accidental fatal drug poisonings. All eight deaths were connected to non-pharmaceutical opioids and are up from the 10 reported between January and February and double the number of deaths reported in March.
Between January and April of 2024, there were 22 fatal drug-related poisonings reported in Lethbridge.
Across Alberta, there were 90 opioid-related fatal drug poisonings in April, with 452 reported in the first four months of the year.
