Play ball: Lethbridge Bulls set to battle Okotoks in first-round WCBL playoff series

It’s time to grab your peanuts and Cracker Jacks as the Lethbridge Bulls get set to start the 2024 Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) playoffs.

The Bulls start their west division semi-final series against the defending league champion Okotoks Dawgs on Wednesday, August 7.

The Bulls finished third in the WCBL west division this summer with 36 wins and 20 losses. The club closed the regular season with a 4-1 loss against Okotoks on Monday, August 5.

Meanwhile, the Dawgs finished second in the west, with 42 wins and 14 losses. Okotoks starts the playoffs on a seven-game win streak.

The Bulls and Dawgs faced each other 10 times during the regular season. Okotoks secured six wins over Lethbridge. A highlight victory for the Bulls came on June 7, when the team bested Okotoks 12-4.

This season marks the Bulls’ 25th anniversary. The team previously won league championships in 2015 and 2021. The Dawgs, meanwhile, have captured seven league titles, including the 2023 championship last summer.

Game one of the best-of-three series starts at 7:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks. Game two will be at Spitz Stadium in Lethbridge on Thursday, August 8 and if necessary, game three will be back at Seaman Stadium on Friday, August 9.
