Lethbridge Hurricanes training camp underway

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are sharpening their skates for the upcoming 2024-25 Western Hockey League (WHL) season. 

The local club opens its training camp on Thursday, August 29. The full training camp roster and schedule can be viewed at the team website. 

The four-day training camp will wrap up at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena on Sunday, September 1. The Hurricanes will have its 53 players split into two teams for the camp. In total, they have 28 forwards, 19 defenseman and six goaltenders. 

Fans can watch the action at training camp for free, however, attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item donation to the Lethbridge and Interfaith food banks. 

Parking at the arena will also be free, with complimentary parking available for fans in the East lot due to construction work in both the North and West lots. 

Training camp will be followed up by the team’s pre-season, which starts on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers. 

On Saturday, September 7, the ‘Canes visit the Red Deer Rebels. Lethbridge will host the Calgary Hitmen on Friday, September 13 and conclude the pre-season on the road against Medicine Hat on Sunday, September 15. 

Proceeds from the sale of tickets for the two home exhibition games will benefit the Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association.  

The Hurricanes will open the 2024-25 regular season on home ice on Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m. against the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings.
