Later this month, the 1950s come alive under the white and blue Big Top tent with Cirque Italia’s Gold Unit “aquatic spectacular” water circus.
Master jugglers, low wire fanatics, dazzling contortion, wild trampoline antics, a wheel of death and strictly animal-free shows are a part of every performance. The show features a custom designed water stage that travels from city-to-city and the stage holds 35,000 gallons of water that performers dazzle over.
Alex Acero says the unique stage is one of only three in the world, with the others in Dubai and Las Vegas. The show opened in 2012.
“We have 17 performers. On the tour, with all the crew, we have almost 70 people,” notes Acero. The multicultural cast features performers from Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Romania, Mexico, the United States and Canada.
People love the show, adds Acero. “The show is about the 1950s, so we have a lot of rock and roll.”
“It’s a show for the whole family. It doesn’t matter what age you are – you’re going to love the show and you’re going to have fun,” says Acero.
According to Acero, he remembers a review of the show from a mom that said her daughter was four years old and the mom bought cotton candy for her. “And she didn’t eat the cotton candy because she was so interested in watching the show that she forgot about it.”
Cirque Italia’s other shows include Paranormal Cirque (which was in Lethbridge earlier this year) and a pirate-themed and car-themed show.
The show runs Sept. 26-29 in the parking lot at Lethbridge and District Exhibition. For more information or to purchase tickets visit cirqueitalia.com.
