Calgary man sent to hospital from bear attack near Window Mountain Lake

Hikers are being reminded of the importance of SOS devices following a bear attack that sent a Calgary man to hospital.

According to Crownest Pass RCMP officials, officers received an emergency SOS from a device on the Great Divide Trail near Window Mountain Lake around 11:19 a.m. Saturday. According to reports, a 45-year-old man was taken to hospital with extensive injuries after being attacked by a bear. Crowsnest Fire Rescue, Fish and Wildlife, and Search and Rescue and STARS, all responded to the incident.

Mounties are reminding those who plan to explore the wilderness to bring an SOS device with them because it is an important emergency tool if you get into an emergency.

According to a statement from police, “It is the most reliable way to call for help after sustaining an injury in an isolated area.”

Along with having an emergency SOS device with you, also ensure to notify others of your plans and the route you will be taking, along with when you will be leaving and expecting to return.
