Lethbridge County’s Fire Restriction has been lifted.
Cooler temperatures and moisture have decreased the risk of fire spread, which had been in the high to extreme range for several weeks.
Fire permits can once again be applied for online. Permits allow fire departments and 9-1-1 dispatch to see where open burning is taking place across the County. With harvest well underway, it is not uncommon for fires to be unintentionally started by hot equipment in fields. Using caution when burning and applying for a permit keeps fire resources from being diverted from emergencies like these.
According to the County, despite the favourable weather forecast ahead, “we ask everyone to be mindful when burning and to apply for a fire permit prior to any open burns.”
The County also encourages you to consider if you’re prepared for emergencies this wildfire season. There are a few simple steps to take to be ready for these kinds of situations:
- Download the Alberta Emergency Alert app to receive life-saving notifications to your phone.
- Keep vehicles fuelled up in case of an evacuation.
- Add one thing to your emergency kit each time you go shopping.
