Showing their athletic and academic success from the 2023-2024 season, 52 Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks earned Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Scholar honours.
The Kodiaks topped the ACAC with the most honourees, highlighting their hard work iin the classroom and in competition.
To be named a National Scholar, student-athletes must earn a grade point average of at least 3.3, enrolled for the full academic year, while also competing for a sponsored athletics team.
“The first pillar of Kodiaks Athletics and being a Kodiaks student-athlete is academic accountability,” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks athletics and recreation services director. “To have 52 Kodiaks earn this honour, while averaging at least 48 each year, is a testament to the Kodiaks representing that first pillar.”
Every Kodiaks program had multiple CCAA National Scholar honourees, led by the soccer teams and the women’s volleyball team, which each had nine.
Kodiaks student-athletes earned a combined 3.02 GPA as an entire department in 2023.
“Every student-athlete is made aware of our three pillars of success during the recruiting process and when they arrive to become a member of the Kodiaks,” adds Caughlin. “Academics is a high priority here. It’s part of our culture.”
