The last week of September marks National Rail Safety Week.
This week Candian Pacific Kansas City Police Service annually partners with Operation Lifesaver to educate people on the hazards of railroads, with the biggest one being trespassing. According to Town of Coaldale officials, those who work on the #STOPTrackTragedies campaign either are railway workers or someone in the community who want to make sure people are safe.
Additionally, town officials are highlighting with schools back in session it means some students will be using the new pedestrian crossing at Land O’ Lakes Drive and Highway 3 by the CPKC’s rail line.
In a post are social media town officials say, “Please keep in mind that trespassing on tracks is a very, very bad idea, and can result in serious injury or death.”
Some of the big tips officials are sharing to stay safe around hazards surrounding rail property and trains is to look both ways when crossing and to not “detour” down the tracks or any part of the rail right-of-way.
