‘Toy gun’ results in weapons complaint, two school lockdowns

A call about what police are reporting as a “toy gun” resulted in the lockdown of two schools Thursday morning.

According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, officers got the complaint about weapons outside of the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and Catholic Central High Schools around 9:40 a.m.

According to a release from police, “Out of an abundance of caution, the schools in the area were advised to lock their doors to the public.”

Four people were taken into custody and officers are said to have determined the “weapon” was a toy or replica gun. Police say the toy gun was never used to threaten a person or any of the nearby schools. Although police are still investigating the incident, schools have been advised to lift the lockdowns because there is “no longer a potential threat”.
