Online resource released to highlight cyber safety

A new recourse has been released focused on online safety for all.

The City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Police Service have released an Online Safety Toolkit during Cyber Security Awareness Month. According to city officials, the toolkit has information on not only technology but also social media, cyberbullying, and cybersecurity.

In the toolkit, there are tips on how to introduce kids to social media and how to share what acceptable usage of the technology is, along with how to limit negative actions. There are also conversation starters to help parents or guardians talk with kids and teenagers about social media.

According to officials, there are resources about age-appropriate social media apps and what “slang” can be seen on the different apps. The toolkit has information about cyberbullying and what to do to prevent and report online abuse, along with different resources victims can access for support.

Fraud prevention is another focus of the toolkit, as it has information about how to determine if information found online is reliable or fake and steps on how to avoid being a victim of a scam.
