Field of Screams returns to Spitz Stadium for thrills and a good cause

A Halloween tradition is back at Spitz Stadium this year.

The annual Field of Screams, presented by the Lethbridge Bulls, Prairie Baseball Academy, and Under the Lights Sports & Entertainment, first made its mark in Lethbridge in 2022.

Not only does it provide spooks by way of a haunted house at the Lethbridge Bulls’ home stadium, but it also helps local initiatives.

“People who bring a donation for the Interfaith Food Bank will get in for half-price,” says Under the Lights Sports & Entertainment Operations Manager Brent Radlinsky.

“The money that we do make goes to Prairie Baseball Academy and the Scholarship Fund, so it helps out not just baseball, but the people in the community as well.”

The PBA supports students in teaching them about not only baseball, but about life. To attend the PBA, a player must be considered a full-time student at either Lethbridge Polytechnic or the University of Lethbridge. Student-athletes must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in the fall semester to be eligible to play on the PBA varsity team in the spring.

BIG SCARES AND LOTS OF FUN

Radlinsky says Field of Screams represents “the biggest haunted house in Lethbridge”.

“If you were here for the Bulls season, you’re going to come here in October and see a completely different place.”

This year, an expanded tour starts in the clubhouse, with ghosts and ghouls waiting in the dark. The haunting experience continues through the decorated patio area at Spitz Stadium, up to the concourse and into the stands.

Radlinsky adds the event is open to all ages, but says, “We do tone it down for certain ages or we can tone it up for certain ages as well, depending on what you like, but we do vet it a little bit to make sure everybody has a good time while they’re here.”

On chillier nights, attendees can enjoy some hot chocolate and sit by firepits after their frightful experience through the haunted house.

Something different this season is the addition of horror movies.

“We’re going to be playing horror movies on the Saturdays all throughout the [event] up on the big screen if you want to come and sit in the outfield or sit on the patio here at Spitz Stadium, it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Radlinsky adds, telling My Lethbridge Now that the attraction will feature screenings of the first three Friday the 13th movies.

Radlinsky gave special mention to everyone who helped put the event together, including the local Ankerman family. “They take care of all the decorations. They do all the legwork to get the decorations out there, so kudos to the Ankermans for getting this done for us.”

Field of Screams opens Thursday, October 17, with multiple dates leading up to Halloween on Thursday, October 31.
