After 11 months the Lethbridge and District Exhibition is projecting their total deficit for the year to be $4.4 million less than originally anticipated.
The organization’s November report to the Economic Standing Policy Committee covers both financial and operational costs up to the end of September which is reported to be a total deficit of $2.2 million.
City of Lethbridge Mayor Blaine Hyggen says the work of LDE leadership to continue to grow opportunities for the Agrifood Hub and Trade Centre is positive to see.
“The more activity, events and exposure people have to that space, the more successful it will be,” Hyggen says.
Since the end of September, the facility has hosted over 45 events, including the Alberta Livestock Expo, the Rock and Gem and the City & Baby tradeshow. During the month of October over 35 bookings were confirmed for the expo facility including Glow Lethbridge which is scheduled to open later this month. Another major event that is being highlighted throughout the month of November includes the Agri-Food Innovation Expo which will be running from November 26th to 28th. Acting CEO Kim Gallucci says this is an event facility staff is proud to be hosting.
“We’ve been able to partner with the Red Deer’s Westerner Park which is a great collaboration that will see the event alternate each year between Lethbridge and Red Deer. We are excited to work together to highlight the amazing agricultural innovation we have right here in our own backyard,” Gallucci says.
The LDE officials are expected to bring forward their 2024 year-end presentation in the coming weeks.
