Kodiaks set for final games of first semester 

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks wrap up play for the first semester this weekend. 

Both basketball and volleyball teams face the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder, with the basketball teams playing at home and the volleyball squads on the road. 

BASKETBALL 

The women’s basketball team faces Concordia at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 29 in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.  

Both teams are ranked fifth in their divisions, with the Kodiaks led by fourth year Courtney Deemter. The Bachelor of Nursing student-athlete has had a productive start to the season, leading the Kodiaks in overall minutes, average points per game and steals per game. Bailey Blackmore leads the team in three-pointers, standing out in her first year with the team. The Kodiaks are 4-4 so far this season, with Concordia holding a record of 2-6. 

The Kodiaks men’s basketball team is on home court at 3 p.m. and are ranked sixth in the South division. The Thunder are in third in the North. Second-year Treydon Barton leads Lethbridge Polytechnic in scoring and free throw shooting at 79.4 per cent. The Kodiaks are 4-4 so far this season, while Concordia is 5-3. 

VOLLEYBALL 

The women’s volleyball team visits Concordia on Friday, November 29 for a 6 p.m. matchup. First-year player Robyn Austin has totaled 62 kills during the first part of the season. Lethbridge is 1-7 this season, putting them in seventh in the South Division. Concordia holds a record of 0-7, putting them in seventh in the North. 

Meanwhile, the men’s volleyball team plays Concordia at 8 p.m. and currently has a record of 7-1. The Thunder hold a record of 0-7. The Kodiaks sit in second in the South division, with Concordia in seventh in the North. Fifth-year Ethan Nashim leads the Kodiaks with 87 kills this season, while second-year Marshall Qually boasts a .610 hitting percentage.
