Success on the mat for local wrestlers at Wetaskiwin Classic

It was a tough but productive outing for athletes with the Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association this past weekend.

The local club hit the road for the 2024 Wetaskiwin Wrestling Classic, meeting stiff competition in their weight classes.

The Lethbridge wrestlers did manage to secure some medals.

In the High School Novice division, Sterling Lowry (63kg) won silver, Paiden Fidler (65kg) earned silver, and Colby Seeley (60kg) finished the event with a bronze medal.

In the High School Elite division, Syndey Shields (80kg) and Thomas Ellis-Toddington (77kg) each placed fourth, and Sydney Campbell (65kg) finished sixth.

“It’s good to see that there’s lots of talent in Alberta to challenge our wrestlers,” says director of operations for the LAWA Pat Selk. “It was a tough tournament and showed us where we need to focus to remain competitive.”

The LAWA has been in the community for 40 years and provides coaching and training for athletes starting at six-years-old.
