Christmas morning fire damages Stafford Drive business

An early morning fire on Wednesday is estimated to have caused over $10,000 in damages to a local business.

According to Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services officials just after midnight on Christmas crews from three stations responded to the fire an oil change business on Stafford Drive North. Fire fighters are said to have found several 45-gallon barrels that had filters and residual oil products on fire. The fire from these barrels is said to have spread to the adjacent gas meter. A larger fire was ignited on the side of the building due to the line that supplied gas to the meter melting from the flames.

A release from LFES reads “Thanks to their quick work, fire crews were able to limit the damage to the building, working with ATCO Gas to stop the flow of gas to the building before fully extinguishing the fire.”

No injuries were reported.
