Accidental fatal drug poisoning claims one life in Lethbridge in September

One person is said to have lost their life in September to an accidental fatal drug poisoning.

According to the Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System, the death was connected to non-pharmaceutical opioids.

September saw a year-over-year decline in the number of accidental fatal drug poisonings in the city, with 10 reported in September of 2023.

Between January and September of 2024, there were 38 accidental fatal drug-related poisonings reported in Lethbridge, all reportedly caused by non-pharmaceutical opioids.

Across Alberta, there were 21 opioid-related fatal drug poisonings reported in September and in the first nine months of the year, there have been 886 lives lost to accidental fatal drug poisonings.
