The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced another move ahead of Thursday WHL trade deadline day, acquiring 2005-born forward Anthony Wilson from the Regina Pats.
In exchange, Regina is getting a fourth-round 2026 draft pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft from Lethbridge.
The 19-year-old Wilson was originally selected 59th overall in the third round of the 2020 WHL Draft by the Victoria Royals. He has appeared in 27 games so far this season, scoring seven goals with four assists and 17 penalty minutes.
Over the course of 210 regular season WHL games, Wilson has hit the ice for the Pats, Royals and Brandon Wheat Kings, amassing 67 points (30 goals, 37 assists) and 151 penalty minutes.
“Anthony is a good, two-way forward who plays the right side,” says Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt. “He will bring us a physical element to our middle-6 forwards and is a really good skater who has the ability to help offensively.”
During the 2023-24 season, the right-winger posted a career best 25 points, with nine goals and 16 assists split between the Wheat Kings and Pats.
The Wilson name is not unfamiliar to the Lethbridge club, as Anthony is the younger brother of former Hurricanes draft pick Wyatt Wilson.
Additionally, the younger Wilson spent the 2018-19 season with the Yale Hockey Academy, where he was teammates with current Lethbridge forward Brayden Edwards. The newest Hurricane played for the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep team in 2019-20, where he was teammates with Kooper Gizowski and Tristen Doyle.
