First emergency management coordinator for the region announced

Breea Tamminga will lead the region’s disaster preparedness efforts, as the first emergency management coordinator for Lethbridge County, Barons, Coalhurst, Nobleford and Picture Butte.

This per-capita cost-sharing initiative aims to unify emergency management strategies and bolster resources across partner municipalities, as part of the newly signed Regional Emergency Management Partnership Agreement.

Tamminga brings extensive experience in emergency management, including coordinating Emergency Operations Centres during incidents such as the COVID-19 pandemic and wildfires in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. She has also developed and facilitated emergency management training, including full-scale exercises with multiple stakeholders.

Disasters like floods and wildfires don’t respect boundaries, so regional collaboration is essentialI look forward to working with our partner municipalities to prepare our communities and build resilience across the region,” says Tamminga.

As part of this collaborative approach, Tamminga will meet with each of the partner municipalities and regional stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities before developing a Regional Emergency Management Plan. She will also lead training initiatives for municipal staff, building capacity for effective response during large-scale or long-term events.
