The number of people unemployed in the economic region which includes Lethbridge saw a downtick in December compared to both the previous month and year.
According to Statistics Canada, in December 5.4 per cent of people were unemployed in the Lethbridge and Medicine Hat region, which is down nearly an entire percentage from the previous month and 0.1 per cent from the same month the previous year.
The Banff – Jasper – Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca – Grande Prairie – Peace River region reported the lowest unemployment rate in the province 3.7 per cent, while Red Deer’s unemployment rate was the highest with 7.6 per cent.
The provincial unemployment rate was down in December compared to November, going from 7.5 per cent to 6.7 per cent. However, the unemployment rate saw a 0.4 per cent increase in December compared to the same month the previous year.
