Lethbridge Police continue to investigate a pedestrian collision earlier this morning that resulted in serious injuries to three young children.
Just after 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, police responded to a report three children, aged 14, 7 and 5, were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 13 Avenue and 23 Street North.
EMS transported the children to Chinook Regional Hospital and all three were subsequently transported to Calgary for further treatment.
Investigation determined the children were crossing in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on 23 Street North. The driver stopped and remained on scene.
The three students involved in the incident were from the Holy Spirit School Division.
“A Southland bus transporting Holy Spirit students was in the vicinity at the time of the incident, but was not involved in the collision. Those on the bus may have been witnesses,” notes Chantel Axani, superintendent of schools.
“As always, the well-being of our students, staff and families is our number one priority. To support those in need, there are on-site counselling services available at our schools.”
Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
