Lethbridge wrestlers represent community well at Cardston tournament

Over 20 local amateur wrestlers hit the mat in southern Alberta last weekend. 

Members of the Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association, ranging from six to 18-years-old, competed at the Cardston Cougar Invitational. The event was hosted at Cardston High School on Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18. 

Lethbridge was well-represented, with many placements and medals won. 

Below is a list of how the local athletes fared: 

  • Nick Reizvikh (24 kg Male Tyke) – Silver 
  • Robbie Petersen (24 kg Male Tyke) – Gold 
  • Jet Stewart (27 kg Male Tyke) – Gold 
  • Aiden Kuehrt (27 kg Male Novice) – Fourth 
  • Alex Reizvikh (30 kg Male Novice) – Bronze 
  • Leo Biggin (35 kg Male Kids) – Fourth 
  • Jasper Kornelson (42 kg Male Kids) – Gold 
  • Aiden Neiboer (45 kg Male Kids) – Bronze 
  • Tirzah Braun (32 kg Female Kids) – Gold 
  • Paige Petersen (43 kg Female Kids) – Silver 
  • Natalia Macias Guzman (59 kg Female Junior) – Fourth 
  • New Bowen (39 kg Male Junior) – Fourth 
  • Reid Ellis-Toddington (49 kg Male Junior) – Silver 
  • Dane Lowry (59 kg Male Junior) – Silver 
  • Lucas Martineau Henry (70 kg Male Junior) – Bronze 
  • Josh Maynes (77 kg Male Junior) – Gold 
  • Colby Seely (62 & 65 kg Male Junior and Novice High School) – Silver and Gold 
  • Paiden Fidler (52 kg Female Novice High School) – Silver 
  • Sydney Campbell (66 kg Female Novice High School) – Bronze 
  • Kieran Bouchard (65 kg Male Novice High School) – Bronze 
  • Sterling Lowry (67 kg Male Novice High School) – Gold 
  • Andrew Iwaasa (69 kg Male Novice High School) – Silver 
  • Grady Steed (60 kg Male High School Open) – Fourth 
  • Christien Lowry (71 kg Male High School Open) – Silver 
  • Jack Huggins (74 kg Male High School Open) – Bronze 
  • Sydney Shields (76 & 80 kg Female Novice High School and Open) – Gold and Gold 

“It was awesome to see our organization represented across such a large age group,” says coach and association president Riley Ellis-Toddington. 

“Not only did our athletes represent at the highest levels but also those new to the sport got a chance to compete for the very first time. We hope having multi-age group tournaments such as that put on by Cardston will become the norm and promote our sport both regionally and nationally.” 

The LAWA has been active in the community since 1991 and offers training and coaching for those aged six and older.
