On Monday Lethbridge East MLA Nathan Neudorf presented Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh with the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his contributions to public safety, crime prevention and community leadership, which has positively impacted not just Lethbridge but the surrounding communities.

During his presentation, Neudorf says Mehdizadeh came to Lethbridge and took over the department on the heels of the defund the police movement and during a time when the LPS was receiving negative attention and had a low internal morale.

“He came in and he listened,” Neudorf says. “He cared. Everywhere we go, people come up to him and talk to him. These are everyday citizens and they do that because he takes the time to listen.

“His dedication and service have truly transformed Lethbridge for the better. This medal is not just a recognition of
his achievements but a heartfelt expression of our deep gratitude. It is an honour to have nominated him for this award and to present it in recognition of his exceptional contributions to our city.”

Neudorf says because of the chief’s actions LPS is now a thriving department, which is a testament to Mehdizadeh sharing his heart with the community and “handling the difficult task he was given with grace, patience and kindness.”

Lethbridge’s police chief says he was “deeply humbled and profoundly grateful” to receive the medal. However, he says the honour is not just his but everyone who has worked tirelessly to serve the community.

“To my colleagues and the families who support us, this distinction belongs to all of you,” Mehdizadeh says.
