New traffic camera shares real-time coverage on part of Highway 3

Those who plan to travel along the Highway 3 river crossing will be able to check road conditions ahead of time thanks to the installation of a new traffic monitoring camera.

The City of Lethbridge says the new camera captures westbound and eastbound traffic before, on and after the bridge, with still images taken every two minutes. This will cover the past 20 minutes of activity on the crossing.

This move follows the installation of four cameras set up to cover Whoop-Up Drive, as well as the exit ramps at University Drive and Scenic Drive. All cameras are set up so any information that could personally identify someone cannot be seen on the web feed.

The City adds the new cameras can also be used to support its traffic monitoring and management work, with the newest one being tied into the Whoop-Up Drive Emergency Traffic Protocol. All cameras can be seen at the City of Lethbridge website.
