Two lives were claimed in October by an accidental fatal drug poisoning.
According to the Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System, both deaths in Lethbridge were connected to non-pharmaceutical opioids.
This is one more life lost to drugs than in September, but according to the data, the number of accidental deaths is still on the decline compared to both 2022 and 2023.
Between January and October of 2024, there were 40 accidental fatal drug-related poisonings reported in Lethbridge, all connected to non-pharmaceutical opioids.
Across Alberta, there were 78 opioid-related fatal drug poisonings reported in October and in the first 10 months of the year, there have been 964 lives lost to accidental fatal drug poisonings; 933 were connected to non-pharmaceutical opioids.
