Man charged in $1 million drug seizure sentence to 12 years in prison

The man charged in connection to record amounts of meth, fentanyl and cocaine seized at the end of 2022 has been sentenced to over a decade behind bars.

According to ALERT Alberta, Patrick Rodney was sentenced to 12 years in prison, 10 years for the possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and two years for the possession of a loaded handgun. Rodney was also sentenced to seven years for possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking which will be concurrently with the other sentences.

On December 20th, 2022 ALERT Lethbridge seized over $1 million worth of drugs and cash from executed two homes and two vehicles in the London Road area and Winston Churchill neighbourhood. ALERT officers with the help of Lethbridge Police seized roughly five kilograms of meth, over three kilograms of cocaine, and more than 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl powder; along with smaller amounts of ketamine, mushrooms and $79,000 cash.

At the time of the seizure LPS Chief, Shahin Mehdizadeh said the seizure is a victory for more than just police.

“The success of this investigation is a testament of strong model of teamwork, collaboration and partnership that exists between the ALERT structure and LPS is proud to be a partner,” Mehdizadeh said.

Along with the drugs police also seized a sawed-off shotgun and a loaded handgun that had previously been reported as stolen from Redcliff.
