Peavey Mart warns of fake website scam

Coming off last month’s news that it was closing all its 90 locations across Canada; retailer Peavey Mart has issued a warning about a scam targeting its customers.

The Red Deer-based company is offering liquidation discounts as it prepares to shutter shops but says there have been reports of fake websites and social media pages pretending to be Peavey Mart, attempting to steal the personal information of customers.

The fraudulent websites claim to operate an online store. Peavey Mart says its official website is not accepting orders and liquidation sales are in-store only.

The company adds it will never ask for credit card payments online or by phone.

For social media pages, officials say if a page does not carry the verified Peavey Mart name and checkmark, it is not affiliated with the Alberta retailer.

The company has posted a guide on its official website, which you can see here.

Anyone who believes they may be a victim of fraud is asked to contact their credit card company; local police service or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
