Vista Radio Lethbridge advising of fake social media account

Vista Radio Lethbridge is advising of a fake social media account running under its 98.1 The Ranch banner.

The account on X (formerly Twitter), operating under the name @98_1TheRanch is not real and is asking artists for money to promote their music.

The legitimate account of the local radio station is @981_TheRanch.

“There is an X account impersonating our radio station, going as far as to offer promotion for payment from musicians and may be going after other people,” Vista Radio Lethbridge says in a statement. “This is not our account, it is a clone.”

“Our X account isn’t very active, but we will never ask for payment from any artist at any level to play or promote music or any art. In addition to being unethical, it is illegal. Further, the people behind the account are using a Gmail account to accept PayPal or other payment forms. Do not give them money.”

“Please report the profile as fake immediately. Our online properties department is currently in the process of having the account removed from X, but in the meantime, we feel it important to get the word out. Thank you!”
