Extreme cold warning continues for Lethbridge

The chilly conditions continue across southern Alberta.

An extreme cold warning issued over the weekend remains in effect for Lethbridge and surrounding areas as of Tuesday morning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says wind chill values will be between minus 40 and minus 45 degrees Celsius but will somewhat moderate throughout the day. However, the extreme cold is set to be felt overnight.

The agency is advising that extreme cold impacts everyone and it is important to dress in layers and avoid excessive time outdoors, if possible. That advisory goes for animals as well, with pet owners asked to reduce their pets’ time outside.

WARMER CONDITIONS TO COME

There is some relief in the near future.

The agency is calling for temperatures to warm as next weekend approaches.

Tuesday has a forecast high of minus 18, but that is predicted to go up to minus eight on Wednesday. On Thursday, Lethbridge is forecast to see a high above zero, at five degrees Celsius. By Sunday, the forecast is calling for a high of 16 degrees Celsius.

More details on weather advisories across the province are available at the Environment and Climate Change Canada website.
