35-year Lethbridge Police veteran moving to serve as Lacombe Police Chief

An officer who has spent the past 35 years serving the Lethbridge region is heading north to serve as Chief of the Lacombe Police Service.

According to Lethbridge Police officials, Jason Dobirstein started his career 35 years ago in Coaldale and when the Coaldale Police Service merged with the Lethbridge Police Service in 2004 he made the transition over to Lethbridge. Dobirstein has led several divisions in the department, including his current position as Inspector in charge of the Criminal Investigation Division.

His move to Lacombe is a return to his routes having grown up in the area with his father Fred Dobirstein served with the Lacombe Police, and even served as Interim Chief of the department for a period.

Dobirstein’s appointment in Lacombe will be effective as of June 1st, as he takes over for outgoing Lacombe Chief, Lorne Blumhagen.
