Students in the Lebridge region will be able to access a youth-led tutoring program starting next month.
The YouthInspirEDfoundation is set to open a Lethbridge chapter, called “Lethbridge Helpers”, which will offer free tutoring to students in kindergarten to grade 12. The chapter is part of a partnership between the YouthInspirED and Lethbridge and District YWCA. YWCA CEO Jill Young says the idea of the program is to ensure youth can learn leadership skills, business skills and experience community engagement. She adds the program has two established chapters already in Toronto and Halifax.
“It’s a great concept that came out through the COVID pandemic and they have launched a few other chapters throughout Canada and are now looking to open the Lethbridge Helpers which is their new chapter,” Young says. “Youth will be gaining free accessible services whether that’s in person or virtually.”
The Lethbridge Helpers are still looking for volunteer tutors to join the team. More information on how to sign up to be a tutor for the Lethbridge chapter can be found online. Registration for students looking for tutor support is set to open in March.
