Designed to open conversations and initiate an atmosphere of empathy and support, Sexual Violence Awareness Week takes place Feb. 24-28.
Sexual violence has no place in society and the University of Lethbridge’s Student Services Team is at the forefront of creating a campus culture that supports thriving, healthy relationships.
ULethbridge’s Sexual and Gender-based Violence Prevention Coordinator Leah Webster says Sexual Violence Awareness Week provides an opportunity to educate the U of L campus about the impacts of sexual violence, what resources are on campus and to encourage conversations about growing a culture of consent.
“It focuses on education, prevention and empowering survivors by amplifying their voices. Additionally, this week aims to challenge harmful myths and misconceptions surrounding sexual violence. By engaging students in conversations about consent, healthy relationships, empathy, active listening and mutual support, we create an environment where harmful and problematic behaviours are less likely to thrive,” notes Webster.
Next week, each day features a different activity supporting the themes of the week.
