Cedric Bovon named new Pronghorns Women’s Soccer head coach

Cedric Bovon has been named the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Women’s Soccer program’s new head coach.

With experience in Canada West and a passion for player development, Bovon is ready to bring fresh energy, a strong team-first mentality and a vision for success to the Pronghorns, as they look to elevate their game to new heights.

“Cedric is an excellent fit for our program,” says Director of Athletics Spencer Pommells. “His experience, leadership and emphasis on collaboration and teamwork align with the values of Pronghorn Athletics. We’re confident Cedric will help take the program to new heights and continue to foster a strong, inclusive team culture.”

Bovon currently serves as the girls’ technical director and League 1 head coach for the Calgary Blizzards Soccer Club. He has also spent time as an assistant coach for the Calgary Dinos Women’s Soccer Team and the Mount Royal University Cougars Women’s Soccer program.

An important first aspect of taking over the helm of the team, Bovon notes, is to focus on the culture of the team and within the squad. “To make sure everyone is aligned with my goals as a coach and the coaching staff, alongside with where the team goals are and defining success in our own way. That ensures we’re making small steps towards progress.”

According to Bovon, youth sport opportunities are few and far between. “A personal goal for me was always to end up in an environment where I could pursue that. Lethbridge was aligned with my values, in terms of what I was looking for in a department and a school.”

As for a plan moving forward, Bovon says, he’s still trying to map that out.

“Whether that’s certain successes on the field or certain successes within the group, in terms of what does individual progress look like,” adds Bovon.
