Retired physiotherapist charged with sexual assault of a former youth patient

Police continue to investigate charges against a retired physiotherapist charged with the historic sexual assault of a patient.

According to Lethbridge Police officials, Kin Wai Godfrey Kwan is charged with sexual assault of a person under the age of 16-year-old and sexual interference. The charges are allegedly connected to a historic sexual assault, that is reported to have happened during physiotherapy treatment sessions at Chinook Regional Hospital, which was reported last year.

According to police, the investigation done by officers determined the victim was 12-years-old at the time the alleged incidents happened, and was sexually assaulted on two occasions between November, 2021 and January, 2022 while going through physical therapy.

Police believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging them to come forward.

The 61-year-old is now retired and no longer works for Alberta Health Services. Police report he was arrested without incident at the police station. Kwan has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 16th.
