Lethbridge man facing weapons related charges following high risk incident Sunday

A 69-year-old man is facing charges connected to the seizure of a gun from a southside home.

According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, police responded to a high-risk incident on Sunday after receiving calls about a man with a gun who was threatening to shoot someone. Police attended the scene in the 900 block of 14th Street South, where they secured the home and directed those in the area to shelter in place.

A statement from LPS officials reads, “The male exited the home but did not comply with police commands. Officers deployed several sock rounds and a conducted energy weapon before the male was taken into custody.”

The man was assessed by EMS at the scene and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police were later able to search the home where they found and seized a shotgun and ammunition, which officials say was shot inside the house.

Paul Joseph Lewis is facing a slew of charges including uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, careless use of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.

He has since been released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1st.
