Emergency department in Fort Macleod temporarily closed Friday

Alberta Health Services is advising Fort Macleod and area residents that the emergency department at the Fort Macleod Health Centre will be temporarily closed on Friday.

Officials say the closure is due to an “unexpected clinical personnel shortage” and the “inability to secure coverage”. The closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the department will re-open for 24-hour service.

During the closure, nursing staff will stay on site to help long-term care residents. EMS calls will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

Anyone needing emergency services can go to the Pincher Creek Health Centre, the Cardston Health Centre, the Claresholm Community Health Centre, or Chinook Regional.

Residents can call Health Link at 811, available 24/7, for any non-emergency health-related questions. Additionally, AHS encourages people needing non-emergency medical care to call their family physician.
