UPDATE #2: LFES responds to grass fire near Water Treatment Plant

UPDATE #2: On Friday, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call reporting a grass fire near Scenic Drive and 4 Street South.

Three stations responded with a total of 18 firefighters. Crews acted quickly to get ahead of the fire and knock it down before it could cross Scenic Drive into a nearby residential area.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

LFES would like to remind you a River Valley Fire Ban remains in effect. Conditions are extremely dry, and the risk of fire remains high. Please take extra care to extinguish and dispose of smoking materials properly.

****

UPDATE: The fire is now under control.

Due to wind and dry conditions, LFES crews will remain on scene to monitor hot spots and prevent rekindling.

Please continue to avoid the area.

****

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews are actively responding to a grass fire west of Scenic Drive, near the Water Treatment Plant and south of Whoop Up Drive.

Everyone is asked to avoid the area and give emergency personnel the space needed to work safely. At this time, Scenic Drive remains open.

Smoke may be visible in surrounding neighbourhoods.

Updates will be provided here as they are available.
