Post-election sign removal to begin

It won’t be long before the squares of blue, orange and red no longer line your commute. As per provincial guidelines, candidates have three days after the election to remove all signage from provincial highways.

This includes all parts of the sign from the sign panel to the supporting structure and any tie wiring used to install and support it. Alberta Transportation will get involved if a sign is not removed in 72 hours, and it will be stored at the nearest highway maintenance facility or district office where the campaign office can arrange to pick it up.

In the Lethbridge, candidates also have three days after the election to catch all of their signage along city streets and remove them, as per the city’s Signage Land Use By-Law. Signage on private property should also be removed, in most cases by the candidate who asked to install it.
