Spring Runoff disc golf tournament sanctioned as an A-tier event

This weekend is the Lethbridge Disc Golf Association’s 10th Annual Spring Runoff tourney at Nicholas Sheran Park and Aperture Park, which is located on-campus at the University of Lethbridge.

Tournament Director Rebecca Johnson says this year the event is sanctioned as an A-tier for the first time. “It’s a three-day event. It will take place over the long weekend on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.”

Over the last couple of years, Johnson notes, the event has been run as a B-tier. “We had about 190 players last year. I think we’re pretty close to that this year, as well. I think we’re at about 180. It is a big event and continues to be a big event.”

“We just stepped up our sanctioned tier a little bit. What that means is we’ve got a little more added cash for pros, better player packs for amateurs and a little bit of a higher standard all the way around,” Johnson explains. “Just to make a better playing experience for everybody.”

Registration is now closed for the upcoming tournament.

“We do offer other tournaments at different levels throughout the year. We also offer a variety of sanctioned leagues,” says Johnson.

“If anyone is interested in coming out to watch, there’s no charge. I’d recommend coming out in the afternoons to watch the pros. We have some of the best players in Canada attending this event. We have three members of last year’s Team Canada here,” says Johnson.
