LPS seeking other potential victims after sexual assault charges laid

A 57-year-old is facing charges for the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, officers responded to a report of a 14-year-old girl who had allegedly been sexually assaulted by an unknown man. During their investigation police are reported to have uncovered on April 21st the girl had been in the area of the 300 block of 3rd Street South around 9:30 p.m. when the man is said to have approached her in a vehicle. Police say video surveillance showed the man and girl talking before she got in the vehicle, and according to officers was driven to a Southside home where she was allegedly assaulted. Police say the man had taken her back to the area in downtown Lethbridge he is reported to have picked her up from.

During their investigation police identified the man and arrested him on May 12th without incident and executed a search warrant at his southside home.

He is facing charges connected to sexual assault including sexual interference and sexual assault of a person under 16. The 57-year-old has since been remanded into custody.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and they believe the man may have targeted other vulnerable victims. Police are releasing a photo of Macebo Arthur Mokwena and the vehicle he has been driving, which is described as a red, 2004 Chevrolet Impala with a black midline stripe along the sides and hubcaps on the passenger side, but none on the driver’s side. The man is said to not own this vehicle but has been borrowing from an acquaintance.

Other victims are encouraged to come forward to police by calling 403-328-4444 referencing file 25007040 or by anonymously contacting Crime Stoppers.
