Lethbridge Police Service members were kept busy over the long weekend.
As part of an ongoing traffic enforcement project, the LPS says members issued 36 tickets, took one impaired driver off the road, and arrested someone wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The enforcement project started in 2022 and has been conducted during the summer months ever since. The goal is to address high-risk and nuisance driving habits and community complaints about excessively loud vehicles, racing, and stunting. Police note that they see an increase in this kind of activity when the weather warms up.
You have likely noticed and will continue to notice a larger police presence on local roads as part of the initiative. Residents can help curb dangerous activity by reporting their concerns at 403-328-4444.
Road safety has been a hot topic in Lethbridge, with the City and partner agencies undertaking a large-scale project and study this year. The City of Lethbridge aims to have zero transportation-related deaths and serious injuries by 2040.
