Foodie Fest delivers good eats and treats this summer

Downtown Lethbridge will once again please the palates of local food-lovers with good eats, treats, live entertainment and samples, as Foodie Fest returns.

On May 27, indulge your taste buds, as the annual event kicks off at the southwest corner of Galt Gardens from 12-8 p.m. for a dynamic lineup of food trucks and downtown businesses will showcase the city’s culinary and retail scene.

Free samples will be available at participating restaurants, cafes and eateries and downtown shops will be open late.

There will be live performances by Veronica Raine from 5-8 p.m. in Galt Gardens and the LCI Band from 6-8 p.m. on the Festival Square stage.

Downtown Lethbridge BRZ Executive Director Sarah Amies says the event will be spread out throughout the summer this year, as opposed to just one week. “The last Tuesday of every month during the summer months, we’ll be having some version of Foodie Fest.”

“We have 13 food trucks involved and over 50 businesses are participating with either discounts for shoppers or free samples of their food. We’re hoping this will engage the community and bring them all downtown for a great afternoon and into the evening,” Amies adds. “It’s going to be a really fun day.”

Again, the first event is one version of Foodie Fest, notes Amies. “We’ll change it up every month. People need to stay tuned to find out what’s going on in subsequent months.”

“We’re hoping to possibly host a beer garden during one of them. We’re looking for all kinds of ways to engage folks,” says Amies. “We invite everyone to come and experience the downtown. It’s a lovely place.”
